Dear DFWers,
Great News! We are so proud of our team, with unbeatable teamwork, we won two trophies in Dragon Boat Race at the DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival event Sunday in Irving. We won 2nd place in the Men’s division and 3rd place in the Festival Grand Championship!
A total of 32 teams competed in the race this year. With beautiful weather outdoors, we started our first race at 10:30am to compete with three other teams. We won 1st place by surprise, and realized that we did have great potential and everyone got excited.
With the strategy in place, we started our second race at 12:30pm with three other teams. We won the 1st place again; at that moment everyone was so happy, but we all knew the race would get tougher.
The third race was competing for the Men’s division final which means there are all tough guys out there. At 3:45pm, with the full strength to row, we were only 2 seconds behind last year’s winner, the “Irving Fire Department”, and got 2nd place in the race which qualified us to compete for the Festival Grand Championship.
With the highest spirit ever, at 4:45pm, our team was ready to compete for the best of the best at the starting line with three other final teams for the Grand Championship. When the race started, you could see the water splashing in the lake very fast; it was so beautiful. We were all screaming at the top of lungs to cheer for our team; from the beginning until close to the finish line, our team always stayed in the second place; but when we were almost at the finish line, a college team passed us by .56 second, and we got 3rd place.
